Introduction:
In this post, we'll talk about good food and bad food for your betta fish. This might seem like it's not a very important part of getting a betta fish, but it is. Although some companies make food and your fish seem to like eating it, that doesn't always mean that this is healthy for your fish. It's important to know good foods and bad foods before you get your betta fish.
Live Food:
Although this is a great source of enrichment for your betta this can also harm your betta. If your feed your betta live food and your betta doesn't eat it right away, the betta could accidentally be bitten by the live food you're trying to food your betta.
Another problem could be that the live food you're feeding your betta may have a disease that could spread to your betta and, potentially, be life-threatening. However, if you raise the live food for your betta yourself, this can limit the potential of the disease. Raising food for your betta can take a while and might also be hard if you aren't experienced. So, live food may not be the best option.
Good Foods & Bad Foods For Your Betta:
There are "good foods" and "bad foods" for betta fish. There are types of betta food called "colour-enhancing" food. Although this helps bring out the colour, sometimes this food isn't high in nutrition (remember, this is sometimes not all the time). So, if you decide to feed your betta colour-enhancing food it's a good idea to food this with other foods and not by itself.
You also have to make sure the pieces of food you feed your betta aren't too big for your betta's tiny little mouth! If you feel like the pieces of food you feed your fish are too big, try breaking them up into smaller pieces or wetting them before feeding them to your betta fish.
Notes:
I'm not going to provide how much and how often you should feed your betta fish as every fish is different and fish food is also different. If you have been feeding your betta a type of food that works for you and your betta keeps feeding that food (just remember, just because your betta eats the food and seems to like it, this doesn't mean the food is good for your betta fish).
