Description:

Hello! This is part #1 of a series called "Getting Your Betta Fish". This blog post is only about getting your betta tank and the accessories for your betta fish tank. More posts from this series will be coming soon!

Tank Size:

Many pet stores sell small tanks such as 2 gallon or 1-gallon tanks for bettas. However, bettas can not live in those tanks. Bettas need at least a 5-gallon tank however, an even bigger tank for your betta is always better!

What You Need In The Tank:

Your fish tank must have a filter, heater, gravel/sand at the bottom of the tank, and decorations. When you get decorations make sure they aren't too sharp for your betta fish! Rub your hands against the decorations and if it's too sharp for your hands, it's too sharp for your fish! You can either get real plants for your tank or you can get fake plants (or a mix of both). If you get fake plants, it's a good idea to get "silk plants" as they are softer for your betta. If you get real plants, make sure a betta fish can live with real plants. When you get your other décor pieces that aren't plants, make sure they aren't sharp as well and that your betta fish can get in and out of them easily and without getting hurt. Make sure the paint on the decorations won't chip off, as if it does it can be harmful to your betta fish. You can get real rocks & pieces of driftwood for your tank, however, you should NOT get them from outside and instead, get them from a fish store. You also need to have a heater and filter. If you don't get a filter the water in your tank won't be as clean, and your betta fish will be healthier with a filter. However, make sure your filter isn't too high for your betta fish. Filters that are adjustable always work great! If you don't have a heater in your tank you should get one. Heaters help keep your fish healthy, happy and this will help keep your fish at a good temperature.

Tank's You Should NOT Get:

Never get a tank that has a clear divider in it for 2 bettas. If 2 bettas see each other, they can get stressed out and may also try to attack each other through the glass and get hurt while doing so. Just like I said earlier, betta fish need at least a 5-gallon tank.
